How to run openboxes in Apache Netbeans?

Hi Openboxes team,

May you share if we are able to debug openboxes in Apache Netbeans?
In my Mac, already have npm install and also got error Unsupport Engine error.

Do I need to downgrade my node and npm required by below error message?

“/bin/bash” “-lc” “”/usr/local/bin/npm" “install”"
npm WARN EBADENGINE Unsupported engine {
npm WARN EBADENGINE package: ‘openboxes@1.0.0’,
npm WARN EBADENGINE required: { npm: ‘6.14.6’, node: ‘13.11.0’ },
npm WARN EBADENGINE current: { node: ‘v15.14.0’, npm: ‘7.7.6’ }
npm WARN EBADENGINE }

Thanks,
Mick

Thanks,

I’m not an expert with npm / node so I don’t really know, but my assumption is that this is just a warning that you can ignore.

I’m current using the following versions.

$ node --version
v14.17.5
$ npm --version
6.14.14

And for what it’s worth I use NVM (GitHub - nvm-sh/nvm: Node Version Manager - POSIX-compliant bash script to manage multiple active node.js versions) to switch between different node / npm versions.

As for the more detailed log, I have no idea. It seems like an issue with python :confused: which we don’t use. So that must be a specific node-gyp.

I searched for related issues in GitHub and found the following. Take a look at those and see if there’s anything useful. in there.

May you share if we are able to debug openboxes in Apache Netbeans?

I forgot to respond to this.

I have been using IntelliJ Utimate for the better part of 10 years so I don’t have much experience with Netbeans. The last time I tried to use Netbeans was many many years ago (Netbeans 8.2) and it seemed to work pretty well. I just fired it up and it looks fine to me. Newer versions of Netbeans will probably support newer versions of Grails so I’m not sure how it’ll handle an older Grails project like ours.

As for whether it plays nice with npm and node, I don’t really know. I generally run servers in dev mode (grails run-app (for running the main webapp) and npm run watch (for editing React resources) in terminal windows outside of the IDE.

Thank you @jmiranda

I tried to install
node v14.17.5
npm v6.14.14
last one to install compatible sass version
npm install node-sass@4.14 --save-dev --unsafe-perm node-sass

There is no more error but I cannot run the app.

This screenshot, it is selected index.html file.

Thanks,
Mick

Make sure you’re using Java 7. We recommend using Zulu.

As for the dependency error …

SERVER ERROR: HTTPS Required

… we’ve fixed that in the most recent version. 0.8.16-hotfix3 is at least a few months old, so I would recommend using the develop branch.

I believe the fix was to add an insecure Maven Repo to BuildConfig.groovy.

repositories {
        //grailsRepo "http://grails.org/plugins"
        grailsPlugins()
        grailsHome()
        grailsCentral()

        mavenLocal()
        mavenCentral()

        mavenRepo "https://repo.grails.org/grails/plugins-releases/"
        mavenRepo "https://repo.grails.org/grails/plugins/"
        mavenRepo "https://repo.grails.org/grails/core/"
        mavenRepo "https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots/"
        mavenRepo "http://insecure.repo1.maven.org/maven2"
    }

Thank you @jmiranda.
After got notified new version so I used a new one instead,
and tried to following each configuration step.

grails upgrade
I got below errors.

Also I used same version node and npm Github instruction.

Thanks,

This is telling me that you’re running with Java 8. You need to use Java 7.

Just checkout the develop branch for the latest changes.

Thank @jmiranda
I still got same error after change to use SDK 7.

Thanks,
Chandara

The IDE setting is only applicable if you’re running Grails from within the IDE. Since you’re running grails run-app from the command line you need to tell your terminal (bash) to use Java 7.

Just to confirm that your system is trying to use Java 8, execute the following command from your terminal and post the output here.

java -version

On Ubuntu, I usually have to do two things

  1. Configure the default JVM
    $ sudo update-alternatives --config java
    There are 5 choices for the alternative java (providing /usr/bin/java).

      Selection    Path                                            Priority   Status
    ------------------------------------------------------------
      0            /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java      1111      auto mode
      1            /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java      1111      manual mode
      2            /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java   1071      manual mode
      3            /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java          1073      manual mode
    * 4            /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java   1081      manual mode
      5            /usr/lib/jvm/java-9-openjdk-amd64/bin/java       1091      manual mode

    Press <enter> to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number: 2
    update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java to provide /usr/bin/java (java) in manual mode

  1. Set the JAVA_HOME environment property in my .bashrc
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64

I don’t know exactly what you need to do on Mac, but here’s a resource to help you figure it out.

You’ll know you did it right when you see something like this

$ java -version
Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.2
java version "1.7.0_95"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.4) (7u95-2.6.4-3)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)
``

Thank you @jmiranda
It is seem working now.

I used these two command
/usr/libexec/java_home -V
export JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.7

It is running now. only fixing issue cannot connect to mySQL database.

Thanks,
Chandara

@jmiranda Im reaching the last step.

Set the database configuration in openboxes-config.properties.

You will need to create the file if you haven’t already done so.

See the README for instructions

Once it does connect to the database and you can see that the application is running through database migrations please be patient. This process can take a long time especially if you haven’t followed the instructions carefully (hint: make to increase heap size and permgen).

Thank you @jmiranda

I created in this location. is it a correct place?

Thanks,
Chandara

No it’ should be created under your user home directory. On A Mac that would be something like

/Users/username/.grails

If you encounter any more issues send me the full output from the grails run-app command.
